Church, Martyrs and Saints

Known for: Charles Thomas Studd was a British evangelical missionary who was part of the ‘Cambridge Seven’, a group of seven missionaries who took part in the China Inland Mission. He was also a gentleman cricketeer, and played for England in the 1882 match against Australia which became the origin of The Ashes.

School days: Studd attended Eton with all three of his brothers, being the second youngest out of them all. As one might expect, he excelled in sports at Eton, winning Double and Single Rackets in 1879 and School Fives in the same year. He was also the Keeper of Rackets and Fives in 1878 and 1879 respectively, and was also the Captain of XI. Studd was also a member of the Eton Society during his time at Eton College.
